A pharmacy technician’s job is to assist a licensed pharmacist when it comes to pharmacy work and duties. Such duties include keeping patient records updated and accurate when it comes to the patient’s prescribed medication. There are a lot of places where these technicians can find employment which is why it wouldn’t be so hard for anyone qualified to earn a decent living out of a pharmacy technician wage. Retails pharmaceutical stores are in great need of pharmacy technicians. This is a good opportunity for individuals who are qualified and certified in this type of job because they can maximize their knowledge and skills to the fullest. Hospitals are also one of the industries where these technicians can find a job. Most technicians do the filling of prescription drugs for hospital patients other than that they also handle a little bit of transactions involving money. They also deal with patients when it comes to medication information, treatment and the like. Pharma techs in hospitals are also required to maintain the database that has all the information about every patient that the hospital had and have.  Because of the very demanding job of this profession anyone who is aspiring to be in this kind of job should be open to the idea of shifting schedules and long hours.

To be qualified in this job one must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Employers these days also prefer applicants who had formal training or education about pharmacy work. Those who already have relevant experience when it comes to pharmacy tasks will always have an edge. Among all the preferences being given priority by employers the one that stands out is a certification. Earning your CPhT title will surely keep you on top of the applicant’s list. Other than being given priority by employers you also have all the rights to demand for a better pharmacy technician salary. But always bear in mind that you should always keep your feet on the ground. It would be better to get the job first and perform at your best before you demand your employer of a higher pharmacy technician salary.

As of now not all states will require pharma techs to be certified but the career growth and advancement one can achieve if he or she is a certified pharma tech cannot be denied as well. In large organizations, experienced and well-trained certified technicians are given supervisory roles. Other institutions have their CPhT employees working on nuclear medicine and chemotherapy.  Once you pass the certification exam for the first time you will already be required to take it every two years. This process will ensure that you are updated with all the new things happening in medical science that will affect your job as an effective pharmacy tech.
